Photochromic materials are those which can undergo reversible photo-switches between two different states or isomers upon alternative irradiation with different wavelengths of light.Their photocylization is accompanied by distinct photophysical and photochemical properties.Diarylethene derivatives are one of the most promising families of photochromic compounds due to their excellent thermal-ability,remarkable fatigue-resistance and rapid response.A variety of light-driven functional materials have been exploited for their special photo-switchable characteristics and scientific value in ultrahigh-density optical date storage, molecular switches,self-assembly and bio-imaging.In this paper, diarylethene has been treated as the skeleton for different research.Different functional molecules were connected with diarylethene, showing their photochromic properties and specificity of the small molecules. The molecules included:4-bromo-N,N-dimethylaniline,bromophenol,bisphenol A,melamine and DPP.The research shows that asymmetric diarylethenes showing good photochromic phenomenon and pH has a significant effect on its UV absorption spectrum.Bisphenol A functionalized diarylethenes perform interesting solvent-dependent besides their good photochromism;and diarylethenes functionalized by melamine didn't show hydrogen-bonded with perylene bisimide, while the combination DPP with diarylethene didn't show their photochromism for the DPP's strong coloring and their instability under 254 nm.
