High purity quartz is the raw material of high-grade quartz products,and it is also the basic material of high end products of silicon industry.First?secondary natural crystal is the raw material of high purity quartz at first,by means of purification and processing to make high purity quartz.As the lack of quartz crystal,we have to choose other quartz minerals to provide raw material for high purity quartz.Among various quartz minerals,vein quartz is used by many countries as raw material for its' high purity and better refining effects.But not all of the vein quartz is suitable for the preparation of high purity quartz.Different causes of vein quartz have different petrologic characteristics,which has great influence on making high purity quartz.In this paper,we have selected 13 vein quartz samples with different origin,and made a deep research and discussion about their petrology characteristics.In this paper 13 vein quartz samples were subjected to the same high purity quartz purification process,using ICP detection to test and analyze its composition.And by comparing the optical characteristics,microstructure features,inclusion characteristics,and phase transformation characteristic through heating to discuss the influence of different petrology characteristics for the preparation of high purity quartz.By contrasting optical property of different vein quartz and the refining effects of them,vein quartz exist wavy extinction and zonal extinction after geologic agent appear.The larger of geologic agent,the more clear of the extinction phenomenon,the worse of the refining effect.So vein quartz with characteristics of large crystal,less extinction phenomenon,better refining effect,will be the good choice of high purity quartz.By contrasting microstructure features of different vein quartz and the refining effect,quality vein quartz has little structure fractures and microfractures.On the contrary,ordinary vein quartz have more.And there are many quartz clastic black minerals in the fractures.These fractures are the product of the late geological process.The more intense geological process,the more of the fractures,the more impurities filling,plus the post-dynamic recrystallization,the possibility of impurities into the crystal lattice are greater which is a disadvantage to the preparation of high purity quartz.So vein quartz with characteristics of less fracture,less dynamic recrystallizaiton have more potential to become high purityComparison of different origin vein quartz inclusions and purification effect,quality vein quartz has more protogenetic inclusions due to fewer cracks,mostly are gas-liquid two phase,liquid inclusions,and the inclusions content are more.Ordinary vein quartz has more secondary inclusions,which gas-liquid inclusions and liquid inclusions.By the test of infrared spectrum analysis,we found that the content of high quality gas-liquid inclusions in vein quartz is not uncommon.Therefore it is believed that the secondary inclusions had larger impact on the preparation of high purity quartz,while the primary inclusions affected less.By contrasting the heating transformation of vein quartz and the mineral composition by ICP,we found that element K and Na act as catalyst in heating vein quartz.The more the contents of K and Na,the earlier cristobalite will appear.So if we use heating in making high purity quartz,we should chose appropriate temperature according the content of K and Na.
