Research On Sustainable Design Of Typical Furniture

Currently, sustainable development has aroused widely concern around the world, while application of sustainable design has been developing quickly. China is one of the biggest furniture producers around the world, it has momentous practical significance to develop sustainable design and evaluation methods. Sustainable design methods and models for furniture are developed through researches on cycle assessment and analysis of typical furniture.Based on the summary and analysis of the relevant theory and methods of sustainable design, methods and tools suitable for sustainable design study of typical furniture are proposed while applications of furniture sustainable design and evaluation tools are analyzed,so as to lay the foundation in technology level of study method.A field research on furniture production process and its life cycle data is carried out based on interview method, field survey and statistical analysis method in Tsingtao Yimu Furniture Company; three typical wooden furniture's environmental impact throughout their life cycle are accessed using life cycle analysis (LCA) method in the environment of Simapro software and Eco-indicator 99 as the environment assessment indicator. After the analysis of the assessment result, key environmental impact procedures and their features throughout the life cycle of typical furniture are identified which provide objective basis for the proposed of sustainable design methods for furniture.Using qualitative analysis method Design for Environment (DFE), three typical furniture's life cycle are analyzed; the results are compared with the features of the key procedures and then integrated in order to propose improvement alternatives; the alternatives are evaluated from the view of technological, financial and social while their environment impact reduction effect are assessed; the final results provides the furniture produce company some practical advices to improve their environment performance.Two models, which are Furniture life cycle environmental impact assessment process and boundary model, are developed by studying characteristics of modern furniture design process and its life cycle and integrations of sustainable design and evaluation methods existed. Meantime, sustainable design process and guidelines for wooden furniture are also brought forth.At last, the economic Condition Valuation Method (CVM) is applied in the investigating of willingness to pay for the improvement of furniture environmental performance, based on the foundation of a survey model. It provides a method to refer to for the research of furniture sustainable design.
