A Study Of The Tea Culture Of Zen Buddhism And The Furniture Design Art Of Tea Houses

As an important part of Chinese culture,Zen tea culture calls for returning to one's original nature,and finding the true attitude of life which is integrity?seclude?harmony and elegance.The furniture,as the main part of the tea house,should pay attention not only to the configuration but also to the creating of the atmosphere.However,the system in the design of tea house's furniture in China is not complete,this thesis,based on the understanding of Zen tea culture,uses an aesthetic point of view to find a coherence point between Zen tea and the design of tea house's furniture,and in this way,offers a new theoretical thinking for the design of tea house's furniture.Under the guide of scientific theory,we seek to combine the essence of traditional culture and the the excellent example of tea house's furniture and then contribute a new idea for designing.The key point of this thesis is the interpretation of an unique phenomenon in traditional Chinese culture ——Zen tea culture which is blended by Buddhism and tea culture through thousands of years.The following six chapters will explain a study of the tea culture of Zen Buddhism and the furniture design art of tea housesFirstly,from the concept and the aesthetic standard of Zen and tea culture,this thesis tries to summarize the combination and development of Zen and tea culture and in this way to understand the value of Zen tea culture.Secondly,based on the collection of tea house's furniture in the ancient painting,we classify the modern furniture and combine the excellent furniture works to feel the artistic conception of Zen tea culture.Then,with the former two parts' understanding of Zen tea culture and the design of tea house's furniture,we summarize four ways of designing: subtle enlightenment,simple and unadorned,nature and create artistic conception.We analyze the system by using the design philosophy,form of expression,material selection and environment construction.Finally,under the guide of Zen tea culture we can break through an create the new production of tea house which can demonstrate the harmonious and original nature.
