Due to its biocompatibility,no-toxicity,and environmental friendship,slight crosslinked polyacrylic acid thickener was potentially widely applied in daily chemical products,biological medicine,printing and dyeing textiles.In this paper,three kinds of high thickening ability and powdered polyacrylic acid thickeners were synthesized by precipitation polymerization with acrylic acid(AA)as monomer,three different types of crosslinking agent,in the solvent of low boiling point and nontoxic ethyl acetate(EA).The ideal formula and process conditions were obtained through experiments.The main performances of polymer were analysis and the studying content and conclusions were as follow:1.Polyacrylic acid thickener(PAA)was synthesized by pentaerythritol three allyl ether(APE)as cross-linker.The factors influencing the viscosity and transmittance of polyacrylic acid thickener such as reaction time,the amount of monomer,the kind and amount of initiator,the amount of crosslinker were studied.Result tests showed that the thickener solution with higher viscosity and transmittance was prepared when AA was 17.5%based on mass of EA,initiator LPO was 0.8%and the cross-linker was 1.0%and based on total mass of monomers,the reaction time was 4 h at 73-76?.The internal structures of product PAA was characterized by FT-IR,Laser Particle Size Analyzer and TEM.The rheological properties,electrolyte resistance and performance under different pH value of different mass fractions of PAA were studied.2.Acrylic polymers(PAA-Si)was prepared by polymerization of y-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxyl silane(KH-570)as crosslinker.The effects of reaction time,the amount of initiator and KH-570 on the viscosity and transmittance of acrylic polymers containing silicone in the aqueous solution were investigated.The results showed that the thickener solution with higher viscosity and transmittance was prepared when the cross-linker KH-570 was 2.0%,initiator LPO was 0.8%,based on total mass of monomers,the reaction time was 4 h at 73-76?.The internal structures,the particle size and the heat properties of product PAA-Si was also characterized by FT-IR,Laser Particle Size Analyzer,TEM and TGA.The rheological properties,electrolyte resistance and viscosity and transmittance under different pH value of different mass fractions of PAA-Si were studied.3.Powdered alkali-swellable acrylics thickeners(ASAT)were synthesized by precipitation polymerization with long chain of hydrophobic stearyl acrylate(SA)as comonomer and allyl sucrose ether(ASE)as crosslinker.The effects of reaction time,the amount of initiator,ASE and SA on the viscosity and transmittance of acrylic polymers containing silicone in the aqueous solution were investigated.The results showed that the thickener solution with higher viscosity and transmittance was prepared when the cross-linker ASE was 1.2%,initiator LPO was 0.8%,SA was 6.0%based on total mass of monomers AA,the reaction time was 4 h at 73-76?.The structures,particle size and thermolstability of the polymers were measured by infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),laser particle size analyzer and thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA).At the same time,the performance of ASAT was compared with Carbomer-940.4?The products of polyacrylic acid thickener and market sale of Carbomer-940 were applied in different types of surfactant in the solution.The result showed that the thickening ability of homemade polyacrylic acid thickeners was better than Carbomer-940 by viscosity and transmittance test.
