The fire protection clothing can make the body avoid damage from high temperature or high temperature operation in the foundry industry,petrochemical industry and fire industry.Its main role is to prevent or slow down the heat transfer to the human skin,so it must meet the flame retardant and heat-insulating property.Now small-scale fabric testing was widely used as the main reference and judgment of appropriate apparel.However,because of the lack of comprehensive consideration to clothing styles,structure,auxiliary parts,the body dressed posture,fabric deformation in burning and other factors,the method limited to the performance evaluation of the fabric is clearly not a substitute for flame retardant to.judge and evaluation overall thermal performance.In this paper,two experiments were conducted:TPP test and experiments of flame manikin.The purpose was to explore the differences between materials and apparel in thermal protective performance,and analyze the influenced factors.It was shown that the TPP value had very close relationships with weight,thickness,permeability of fabric.It was increased as the weight and thickness of fabric,while decreased with permeability.The air layer could largely improve the thermal protective performance of fabric.Compared to the TPP test,the thermal protective performance of clothing did not show clear relationships with the basic parameters of fabric,it also affected by the level of clothing worn state,the space under the clothing,irregular shrinkage deformation and other factors.In the experiments of flame manikin,the skin temperature of flame manikin and the surface of clothing were tracked and analyzed.In a long period after flash fire,the surface of clothing continued to maintain a high temperature.Higher temperatures of the surface of clothing will transfer heat to flame manikin,make its skin temperature increase continuously,and then decrease.On the other hand,the temperature of clothing decreased slowly after the rapid decline.The correlation coefficients between burn degree and total heating rate(as)or cooling rate(aj)of hermo-man was over 0.9,showing a high degree of positive correlation.The decline rate of temperature in 4-8s and degree burn showed a significant positive correlation.The results of clothing size and clothing stamped size before and after combustion showed the directly proportional relationship between systolic and burn.The greater the shrinkage of clothing,the more burn of skin.The clothing section of the legs,buttocks and arms had large changes in clothing sizes.On the shrink of garment stamped size,clothing thermal shrinkage in four directions between 8%to 15%,shrinkage of A6#is minimum in each direction,different parts of the garment may affect the rate of heat shrinkage.Combustion characters,such as the time after flame,shrinkage,fabric fading,carbonization,and smoke production,provided comprehensive reflections of the garment thermal protective performance.The results showed that the different clothing had different combustion characters.The fabric strength of A 1#?A2#?A3#?A4#?A5#had significantly reduced but A6#after flash fire.The clothing A1?A2#?A3#?A5#had no continuous burning,but the continuious burning time of A4#was the maximum.followed by the clothing of A6#.The time after flame and shrinkage of the fire protection clothing could affect the degree burns.The greater of fabric weight,the better of the protective performance and the less likely to produce the hole.In conclusion,the study based on the flame manikin testing system showed:The test of TPP did not instead the experiments of the flame manikin,the protective performance of fire protection clothing was not only affected by the basic parameters of fabric.In the experiments of flame manikin,the factors of clothing shrinkage.the surface temperature of clothing and flame mankin could further explain the bur.
