In this study, we used the meteorological data in southern Jiangsu area(Zhenjiang, Wuxi, Suzhou and Changzhou) in 1980-2013, combined with statistics for urban development and related economic data, and discussed the influence on atmospheric environment of southern Jiangsu haze time-space distribution and urbanization. The results are shown below: The haze days in southern Jiangsu increased in 1980-2013, while the increasing rate was slow in 1980-2000 and was sharply increased since 2000. There are more haze days occurred in autumn and winter than spring and summer. A slight haze event usually occurred in southern-west Jiangsu, the area around Zhangjiagang-Wuxi-Dongshan and Yangzhong city. Mild haze events, mainly occurred in the area around southern-west and Dongshan, while moderate haze events occurred around Jurong city. Heavy haze occurred around the area of Wuxi-Suzhou-Dongshan. The city of high frequency haze event mainly around Yangzhong city and Zhangjiagang-Wuxi-Dongshan area during each seasons. The urbanization level of Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou is higher than Zhenjiang. Urban land of this area increased 445.82% from 1980-2010, while expansion intensity from high to low in Changzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi and Zhenjiang city. Corresponding to the high frequency haze event city, the urban land and haze days are under positive correction. Population growth, urban expansion and industrial development result in the economic rise of energy consumption increased at the same time. The city proper area, industrial emissions, coal-burning and car ownership over time and the change trend and trend of haze day growth were positively correlated. Urbanization makes the drop of city air humidity and the increase of surface temperature, resulting in the dry island effect and heat island effect both. Meanwhile, the increasing of pollutant emission also provides the conditions of haze days. The reasons for the outbreak of haze days from 2010 - 2013 may lead to the development of urbanization and the large amount of pollutant discharge. The changes in urban surface change the wind speed, relative humidity and temperature, which is conducive to the formation and persistence of haze. The number of haze events has increased, and southern Jiangsu may be affected by other regions. In contrast to Changzhou and Zhenjiang found that pollution emissions or the main reason for the outbreak of haze, which is closely related to the rapid development of urbanization.
