The traditional solvent coatings cause environmental hazards consist of lots of volatile organic compound.Environmentally friendly waterborne coatings have become a research hotspot in order to reduce the environmental pollution.Alkyd resin is the largest category of resin with wide raw material sources.The further study of waterborne alkyd resin was significantly important,because some drawbacks of waterborne alkyd resin.In this paper,to develop a formula of waterborne alkyd resin and resolve resin performance issues,such as film drying,storage stability,etc.The resin structure was characterized.(1)Through analysis of the synthetic material characteristics and the factors affecting the performance of waterborne alkyd resin,the results showed that using linoleic fatty acids as fatty acids,trimethylolpropane as polyols,phthalic anhydride and benzenetricarboxylic anhydride as polyacids,triethylamine as the neutralizer and propylene glycol methyl ether as solvent was the suitable synthetic materials for waterborne alkyd resin.(2)By formulation design and calculation,the quantitative relationship between formulation parameters and the amount of raw materials was obtained from the simultaneous relations of parameters.(3)In order to optimize the formulation of waterborne alkyd resin preparation,a L9(34)orthogonal experiment were employed to evaluate the effects on set-to-touch time of film.The optimized formulation parameters for waterborne alkyd resin synthesis was predicated and verified as L is 40%,polybasic acid ratio is 2,maleic rosin modified of quantity is 66%.(4)The product was characterized with FIIR and NMR,and the results indicated that the prepared waterborne alkyd resin was as expected.Thermogravimetric analysis results show that with good heat resistance,Potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance results show that with good corrosion resistance.(5)Physical and chemical resistance properties of waterborne alkyd resin were measured.The results indicated that all the films had good drying performance and storage stability.Set-to-touch time of film is 60 minutes,hard drying time of film is 180 minutes.Waterborne alkyd resin have 6 months storage without delamination,film hardness is 2b,adhesion to level 1.
