In recent years,with the rapid development of electronic information industry,electronic waste(e-waste)has become a global environmental problem,one of which is the waste printed circuit board.This is the most difficult part to deal with by recycling.Till now,the emphasis on the recycle of waste printed circuit board is the metal components,nothing concerning the nonmetallic components like glass fibers or thermoset resins,which are typically disposed by landfilling or incineration.This could make not only a new problem of environmental pollution,but also a waste of the resource.In this paper,the non-metallic powder(WPCBP)of waste printed circuit board,which was milled firstly,was used as filler to prepare epoxy resin(EP)/WPCBP composites and EP floor coating materials.Then,the basic performances of composites were investigated further.The physical and chemical properties of WPCBP were systematically studied through a variety of modern characterizationmethods.The results showed that WPCBP with good thermal stability was mainly composed of cured brominated epoxy resin and short broken fiberglass,which is contained in 30%,70%,respectively.After confirming the curing process of epoxy resin,EP/WPCBP composites were prepared and the properties of composites were investigated as well.The results demonstrated the basic mechanical properties of EP composites were decreased by adding unmodified WPCBP.But the tensile strength,flexural properties and impact strength of the EP/WPCBP composites can be significantly improved via using silane coupling agent(KH550).Simultaneously,the optimized content of KH550 was 10%wt,where an optimal mechanical and thermodynamic properties of EP/WPCBP composites were obtained obviously.The tensile strength and flexural strength of EP/WPCBP composites reached up to 72.2 Mpa,120.7Mpa,respectively while adding 5 phr modified WPCBP,almost increased by 12.11% and 9.04% comparing with neat EP.However,the impact strength of composites was decreased with the increase of WPCBP,whatever it was modified.That is because the existence of short broken glass in WPCBP.The toughness of epoxy resin could be improved significantly by polyurethane prepolymer(PUP).When the R value(molar mass ratio of-NCO /-OH)was 2.4,it was found that the optimal overall performances of EP/PUP composites were obtained when adding 15 phr PUP,where the impact strength was increased by 29.49% in contrast to that of neat EP.Meanwhile,the tensile strength of EP/PUP/WPCBP was increased by 7% comparing with that of EP/WPCBP,as well as the enhancement of flexural strength and impact strength.WPCBP was further added to the homemade solventless epoxy self-leveling floor coatings.It was found that the compressive strength of epoxy floor coatings was increased and the tensile bond strength was decreased with the increase of WPCBP content,but all the values can meet the national standards.Besides,the wear resistance of composites was enhanced through adding WPCBP,but a harmful effect on the impact resistance was also observed.
