At present,monitoring based on cutting force,vibration and other physical signals is effective means for real-time cutting tool status recognition in NC machining process.The monitoring signal is not only affected by cutting tool conditions,but also affected by other factors such as geometry and process parameters,which results in the accuracy of recognition poorly,especially for complex structural parts of multi-varieties and small batch production.To solve this problem,the technology of real-time recognition of cutting tool conditions in NC machining process of complex structural parts based on features is studied.The main achievements in this paper are as follows:(1)The common sensors for cutting tool conditions recognition are analyzed,and the cutting force is selected as the monitoring signal.The influence of machining features on the monitoring signal of cutting force is analyzed by experiments.The real-time recognition of cutting tool conditions in NC machining process of complex structural parts based on features is proposed.The feature-based tool conditions recognition information model is described,and its advantage is analyzed.(2)Aiming at the problem that monitoring signal is not only affected by tool conditions but also affected by geometry and process parameters,the effect on monitor signal caused by features and tool conditions has been analyzed.The relationship between geometry-NC program and monitoring signal is established,and the real-time correlation between monitoring signal and machining features is realized.Tool conditions can be classified according to different processing characteristics.(3)Signal analysis and tool conditions recognition methods of NC machining based on feature are studied.Monitor signal is analyzed by features to obtain signal characteristics.The recognition vector is constructed by integrating the information of geometry,process and monitoring signal characteristics.K-means clustering algorithm is used for tool conditions recognition.(4)The system of real-time recognition of cutting tool conditions in NC machining process of structural parts based on features is developed on second development platform of CATIA/CAA and LABVIEW,and it is verified by the experiments.
