In order to improve the performance of oil-water separation in three-phase separator, this paper uses the method of experiment to study several factors affecting the oil-water separation.Evaluation indexes are oil concentration of water outlet, water concentration of oil outlet and concentration distribution in the separator space. For operating parameters,Any one of decreasing flow rate, increasing residence time or raising the temperature can improve the separation effect. For inlet structures, the T inlet have better distribution performance than the horn inlet.Especially when the flow rate is high, using the horn inlet may make the liquid hit the bottom of the separator. The flow field is not stable and that results in mixing. So the separation effect reduces. For the coalescence packings, the separation effect is greatly increased using coalescence packings.Compared with no packing, oil concentration of water outlet reduces to 14%~18%,using polypropylene packing 250 Y.After comparing different coalescence packings, the result shows that geometry and materials of coalescence packings have a great influence on oil-water separation effect. The smaller space of flow channel and oleophilic material are more conducive to the separation of oil-in-water type mixture.Polypropylene corrugated plate packing 250 Y is better than polypropylene corrugated plate packing 125 Y and stainless corrugated plate packing 250 Y.The oil and water outlet separation effect has much to do with the rising effect of oil drops in water. With better rising effect of oil drops, the upper space oil concentration becomes higer and lower space oil concentration becomes lower. Then the separation effect becomes better.
