As a byproduct of the refining process, petroleum coke is a good raw material of preparation of activated carbon with high carbon content, high calorific value, low price and extensive resources.Meanwhile, oil sludge is harmful to people's health as a toxic, flammable industrial waste. If we combined the oil sludge and petroleum coke together,it's not only can lessen the pressure that oil sludge bring to the environment, but also can increase the added value of the petroleum coke.In this study, petroleum coke and oily sludge was used as precursors to produce activated carbon with KOH as the activator. The effects of the pyrolysis temperature, pyrolysis time, heating rate, base coke rate, mud coke rate and other factors on the performance of activated carbon were discussed through orthogonal experiment and single factor experiments. The experimental results of electric heating of petroleum coke and oily sludge showed the optimum condition were as follows: pyrolysis temperature of 810 ?,pyrolysis heating rate of3 ?·min-1,pyrolysis time of 120 min,mud coke ratio of 1:4,the base coke ratio of 4:1;Under the optimal conditions the active carbon was obtained with iodine adsorption value 1623.37mg·g-1,benzene adsorption value 631.06 mg·g-1.A material containing a certain initial porosity and mechanical strength was obtained through changing the dense structure of the petroleum coke.At the same time, the concentration and type of the surface functional groups and the microcrystalline layer spacing were changed to make the activating agents and petroleum coke contact each other, making it easier for the activation process. This paper also studied the effect of microwave power, microwave heating time, mud coke ratio, agents coke rate by microwave oven on the adsorption properties of activatedcarbon. Results showed that microwave heating played the role of catalytic activation,it is able to obtain the activated carbon with high BET surface area under a low KOH/coke ratio. The optimal preparation conditions of activated carbon: the mass ratio of oily sludge, petroleum coke and activating agents is 1:2:10,microwave power of 800 W,microwave radiation time of 60 min.Under the optimal conditions the active carbon was obtained with BET surface area 1396.91 m2·g-1,micropore proportion 88.20%,total pore volume 0.792m3·g-1.As a cost-effective heating process, microwave heating can be considered as an alternative to the traditional electric heating.
