The phosphorus hybrid monomer(VOPP) and stable phosphorus hybrid polymer(OPP) was synthesized by step-reaction polymerization using phenyl dichlorophosphate(PDCP). ethylene glycol(EG), methanol,hydroxyethyl methylacrylate(HEMA),the average molecular weight of VOPPand OPP were explored by FT-IR and gel permeation chromatography(GPC). VOPP and styrene(St) by copolymerization preparation of phosphorus element of hybrid monomer grafted polystyrene copoly mer(V OPP-co-St); flame retardant composites OPP/PS and Alu-OPP/PS were prepared by polystyrene as matrix and stable phosphorus hybrid Polymer(OPP)and aluminum hydroxide(Alu). The flame-retardant properties of the VOPP-co-St?OPP/PS?Alu-OPP/PS were evaluated by TGA,SEM,XPS,LOI and microscale combustion calorimeter. The thermal decomposition activation energy(Ea) of composites were calculated by Flynn-Wall-Ozawa(FWO) method.The results showed that: the VOPP-co-St copolymer with the increase of VOPP content, T5% decreased, Tmax increased,carbon residue rateincreased, LOI increased, PHRR decreased, THR decreased, and no drop phenomenon in combustion, when the content of VOPP was 10wt%,the T5%was 183 ?, Tnmax was 435 ? , carbon residue rate was 6.25% the LOI was 27%, PHRR was 610.71W/g, THR was 18.82kJ/g, and Ea increased with the increase of the thermal degradation conversion. The OPP/PS with the increase of OPP content, T5% increased, Tmaxdecreased,arbon residue rateincreased, LOI increased, PHRR decreased, THR decreased, when the content of OPP was 10wt%, the OPP/PS of T5% was 317? , Tmax was 418? ,carbon residue rate was 5.95%, the LOI was 24.5%, PHRR was 585.00W/g,THR was 14.41kJ/g, and Ea increased with the increase of the thermal degradation conversion.The Alu-OPP/PS composites with the increase of Al(OH)3 content,T5% increased,Tmax increased,carbon residue rateincreased,LOI increased, PHRR decreased.THR decreased,when the content of Al(OH)3 was 5wt%,the Alu-OPP/PS composites of T5% was 273?.Tmax was 414?. carbon residue rate was 19.66% the LOI was 27.5% PHRR was 411.52W/g, THR was 12.87kJ/g, and Ea increased with the increase of the thermal degradation conversion, the Ea of the same thermal degradation conversion of Alu-OPP/PS can be higher than OPP/PS.In generally, the phosphorus hybrid terminal vinyl reactive polymer(VOPP) and phosphorus hybrid polymer(OPP) was synthesized by step-reaction polymerization using phenyl dichlorophosphate(PDCP),ethylene glycol(EG), methanol,hydroxyethyl methylacrylate (HEM A), phosphorus element of hybrid monomer grafted polystyrene copoly mer(V OPP-co-St) was prepared by free radical copolymerization using VOPP and styrene(St),which has intrinsic flame retardancy. Flame retardant composites OPP/PS and Alu-OPP/PS were prepared by polystyrene as matrix blend with phosphorus hybrid Polymer(OPP)and aluminum hydroxide(Alu), andAlu-OPP/PS have synergistic and synergism flame retardant mechanism.
