High speed cutting technology has developed into an advanced manufacturing technology in recent years,it has been widely used in the manufacturing industry,it is the main research direction in the future.Compared with conventional cutting,there is a big difference in chip formation: continuous strip cutting is usually produced at normal cutting speeds,but serrated chips will be generated under the condition of high speed cutting.The formation of serrated chips will make the chip easier,however,during the formation of serrated chips,the cutting force will produce high frequency vibration which can cause the vibration of the tool system,this will increase the loss of cutting tools,the machined surface quality of the metal workpiece is reduced.Therefore,the process of chip formation under the condition of high speed cutting is analyzed,can help to understand the essence of high speed cutting process,it plays a very important role in the selection of cutting parameters and tool parameters,so as to improve the production efficiency on the basis of ensuring the quality of the products.In this paper,using Advant Edge finite element simulation software,by using PCBN tool and hardened steel Cr12 Mo V as the research object,two dimensional orthogonal cutting finite element model is established,analysis and research Cr12 Mo V chip formationa under the high speed cutting by means of finite element simulation and experimental data.(1)Through the Advant Edge finite element simulation software,the forming process of serrated chip in high speed cutting is simulated,the cutting force and the dynamic change process of the cutting temperature in the initial stage of the high speed cutting are analyzed.(2)Single factor simulation,the effects of cutting speed,feed rate and tool rake angle on cutting force,cutting temperature and chip morphology were studied,and in-depth analysis of its causes.(3)Use PCBN tool of single factor orthogonal cutting experiment of hardened steel Cr12 Mo V,the experimental data are compared with the simulation results,both show good agreement,the accuracy of the finite element simulation software to simulate the chip formation process is further verified.
