The problem of the stability and failure of composite cylindrical shells is one of the basic research contents of modern mechanics, and is also one of the urgent problems to be solved in the field of aerospace. In this paper, the theoretical analysis, finite element simulation, experimental research and so on were discussed. The main contents of this paper were as follows:In the first chapter, the applications of the composite cylindrical shell were introduced. The significance and importance of this research was illustrated, and the present situation of the research on the stability and strength of cylindrical shells was systematically summarized. In the second chapter, the failure process of composite cylindrical shells under the thermal field was analyzed.Stability analysis and damage analysis were included, and the effect of temperature field on the buckling of composite cylindrical shells was analyzed. In the third chapter, the stability and failure of composite cylindrical shells under different temperature fields were simulated. In this process, the post buckling process was analyzed, and through the VUMAT subroutine compiled by FORTRAN,the progressive damage of the cell under Hashin criterion was simulated. In the way,the buckling load and progressive damage process of composite cylindrical shells were obtained. In the fourth chapter,The buckling behavior of cylindrical shells under different temperature fields were studied by means of experiments. The failure forms were analyzed, and the results were compared with the finite element method,It was found that the errors were in the allowable range, and the source of error was analyzed. In the fifth chapter,we studied the geometric characteristics of the cylindrical shell, including the reinforcement, the defect and the skin design. The geometric characteristics such as bars, defects and the skin design all had influence on the stability of cylindrical shells. In the sixth chapter, the paper was summarized and the future work was prospected.
