Abrasive water jet cutting is a kind of cold cutting technology that can be carried out at room temperature without dust,odor and gas generated and also with low noise;and no environment pollution.It has been widely applied in industries.The abrasive slurry jet,appeared in recent years not only has the advantages of traditional abrasive water jets,but also has the advantages of high energy utilization rate,better cutting quality,and no nozzle clogging due to the evenly distribution of abrasive particles in the jet.The abrasive slurry is prepared by mix high polymer additives such as methylcellulose and polyacrylamide,into water,and then adding abrasives.The composition ratio of the abrasive slurry directly affects the flow field structure of the jet and the distribution of abrasive particles in the jet,accordingly affecting the processing efficiency and cutting quality.Therefore,based on theory of non-Newtonia n fluid mechanics,the paper studied the rheological properties of abrasive slurry,and the effects of temperature,additive concentration and abrasive on the apparent viscosity of the slurry.With the all-factor experiments,the suspension characteristics of abrasive particles in slurry under different ratios were studied and the effects of parameters such as abrasive type and particle size,polymer type and composition on the suspension characteristics of abrasive particle were analyzed.Based on economic analysis,the best matching parameters of the existing abrasive slurry are studied.It was found in experiments that the stability of abrasive slurry is very good by using both CMC and sodium bentonite as supplement.This paper obtained the suspension properties of abrasive particles in the slurry and the rheological properties of the abrasive slurry under different composition ratios.It provides a technical support for the application of abrasive slurry jet in the field of engineering,which has strong theoretical and practical significance.
