Coupling of Geographic Information System and Geochemical model was found highly effective for analysis of the water produced from CBM wells in the southern Qinshui Basin, which provides a powerful analysis tools for determining the hydrologic and geologic controls on the geochemistry of the produced water. It is shown that the produced water from the southern Qinshui Basin has originated from meteoric source. Its geochemistry is altered and varied with time and place as it flows through the K2 limestone aquifer of the Taiyuan formation.Geochemical processes like water-rock interaction as well as temperature,pH and Redox have great control on the variation of mineral solubility. Thus, this processes influence the geochemical pathways by which the major and trace elements are to be transported and to extend their toxicity environment.Dissolved metal ions and total dissolved solids in the produced water from the southern Qinshui Basin are found to have environmental threats, which may therefore affect the water and land use.
