EPS foam plays an important role and is the most commonly used material in heat insulation of buildings for its good heat insulation and low price.It's not only used as the exterior wall insulation material in traditional buildings and the sandwich heat insulation material in modular houses,but also processed into integration modules to assemble into EPS modular housing directly.However,EPS foam is a kind of flammable materials.It can produce large amounts of toxic smoke and dripping molten droplets in combustion process,which can cause serious casualties and property losses.For solving these problems,the prefoamed EPS beads were coated by phenolic resin(PF)-ammonium polyphosphate(APP)-graphene oxide(GO)composite.PF has the advantages of flame retardancy and heat insulation,burning without dripping,burning with a little smoke and toxicity,etc.APP is a kind of smokeless and lower toxicity material,and GO has the advantages of high carbon yield,stabilization,non-toxic,and reinforcing.The flame retardancy of EPS foam is implemented without changing the process of EPS synthesis and molding.During the research,PF-APP-GO composites were prepared by solution blending and their properties of PF-APP-GO composites including tensile strength,the limitingoxygenindex(LOI)and thermal conductivity were optimized.Considering the cost of materials,the best quality ratio of PF-APP-GO composite is 100:20:1.0.Then,this composite solution was used to coat the prefoamed EPS beads to prepare the PF-APP-GO/EPS foam with excellent mechanical properties,flame retardancy and heat insulation performance combined.Considering the comprehensive performance and cost,the optimum preparation conditions of PF-APP-GO/EPS foam is as follows:prefoamed time 2 min(foam times 25.3),aging time 24 h,the mass ratio of PF-APP-GO/EPS 3:1.At last,in order to avoid the use of organic solvent in solution blending,we developed the ball milling method to prepare PF-APP-GO composites and the stirring method to make PF-APP-GO composite wrapped up to the surface of EPS beads.The comprehensive properties of PF-APP-GO/EPS prepared by this method are similar to the solution blending method and more suitable for industrial production.
