The Henan Yechangping tungsten molybdenum deposit,located in the Yechangping Babaoshan iron-molybdenum-silver metallogenic belt in western Henan,is one of the large skarn-type molybdenum deposits in the eastern Qinling Mountains area.The large-scale exploitation of tungsten and molybdenum resources has left a large amount of tailings,which not only occupied land but also endangered the environment.The comprehensive utilization and harmless treatment of tungsten and molybdenum tailings in this mining area are problems to be solved urgently.In this paper,the mineralogy characteristics of tungsten and molybdenum tailings from Yechangping,Henan,such as mineral components,chemical composition and particle size distribution etc.were studied.On this basis,the preparation of butadiene styrene rubber filler from this tailing was conducted.The mineralogical study showed that the main minerals of the tungsten molybdenum ore tailings were fluorite,quartz,dolomite,calcite,serpentine,tremolite,mica,bauxite and talcum.Among them,the silicate mineral content was around 59%and the carbonate mineral content was around 30%,respectively.The main chemical components of the tailing include SiO2,CaO,MgO,F,Fe2O3 and Al2O3,of which SiO2,CaO and MgO accounted for nearly 87.55%of the total.The tailing powder with different particle sizes were prepared by mechanical ball milling?the mass ratio of ZrO ball to tailing powder was 1:3?.And the powder with the particle size of 5?m was prepared at the conditions of:grinding rate 2000 r/min and grinding time 5 h.Three kinds of surface modifiers?silane coupling agent KH550,sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate and stearic acid?were used to modify the tailing,and the modification effects were evaluated by means of wetting angle measurement,settlement height measurement,viscosity measurement and Fourier infrared spectroscopy analysis.The results showed that the modified tailings had good hydrophobicity.The optimum wet process modification conditions were:the mass ratio of the modifier to the tailing powder was 2%,the modification time was 5 h,the slurry concentration of tailing was20 wt%,and the modification temperature was 80?.The filling experiments of styrene butadiene rubber with modified tailing powder showed that the modified tailing powder had a good reinforcing effect on styrene butadiene rubber.The smaller the particle size,the greater the tensile strength of the rubber.The butadiene rubber filled with the silane coupling agent modified tailing powder had the highest tensile strength of 15.32 MPa,close to that of the butadiene rubber filled with white carbon black,which means that themodified tailing powder could partially replace traditional reinforcing fillers such as carbon black and white carbon black in styrene butadiene rubber.
