In order to effectively solve the current energy crisis and environmental degradation,it is urgent to find clean and effcient alternative fuels.The use of alcohol-diesel as a substitute fuel is a popular research,moreover when compared to other alcohols like ethanol,methanol and butanol,pentanol has greater potential as a blending component with diesel fuel owing to its higher centane number,higher low calorific value,higher energy density and better blend stability.Previous studies have shown that adding pentanol to diesel can effectively improve the combustion characteristics of diesel engines and reduce the emissions of harmful substances.The atomization of fuel injection directly influences the formation and cobustion performance of the gas mixture,however there are few studies on the spray characteristics of diesel-pentanol blends.Based on this,this article in a constant volume and high pressure visualzation experimental platform using high-speed photography technology and laser spectrometer research studied the effects on macroscopic and microscopic spray characteristics of test fuels include the pure diesel(denoted D100),diesel blended with 10%pentanol(denoted DP 10)and diesel blended with 20%pentanol(denoted DP20).Firstly,from macroscopic view,he spray pattern of test fuel expanded and all spray characteristic parameters increased in different degrees with the injection pressure increased,meanwhile the effect of adding pentanol was more obvious with large injection pressure.Then spray characteristic parameters increased in different degrees with greater nozzle diameter.With ambient temperature increased,spray cone angle becomes smaller and other spary properties parameters are increased in different degrees,What's more,The effect of improving ambient temperature is more obvious in the larger pentanol ratio.At last,with pentanol ratio increased,the spary penetration distance of mixed fuel was reduced and the average spray cone angle,spray relative area,spray volume increased significantly.From microscopic view,the Sauter mean diameter and volume representative diameter of mixed fuels was decreased,and particle size distribution of relative had a trend to move to the small particle size range,the change of injection pressure has little effect on the Sauter mean diameter of mixed fuel with large injection pressure.with pentanol ratio increased,the Sauter mean diameter and volume representative diameter of mixed fuels was decreased,and the relative frequency distribution of the mixed fuels concentrated in small size range.
