Moulds are widely used in fields of car, motorcycle, household appliances, daily used plastic and so on. So moulds are closely related with our livelihood and production. During the mould making it takes 50% of the time to the surface polishing. Since the beginning of the 1980's, there have been many new technologies about super-smooth surface processing and optical non-spherical parts ultra-precision polishing. All the polishing tools are designed to obtain the perfect abrasive particle field. So the form of abrasive particle field is very important when researching the contact between gasbag tool and working surface with different curvatures. In this paper, a critical study into the dynamic form of abrasive particles through polishing are made, which are under "inconsistent curvature contact" status. The main work and results are listed as flaw:1. According to the dynamic property of abrasive particle field during polishing, an equipment is designed to obtain images, and stroboscopic photography technology is used as well.2. A new method is proposed. In this system, some abrasive particles are colored up and mixed with ordinary ones, by utilizing transparent working surface and stroboscopic light as well; motion state and distribution of abrasive particles can be photographed by high speed stroboscopic photography technology. This method can get serials of images while polishing. By using digital image processing technology, distribution of abrasive particle field can be obtained finally.3. Three parts are deeply studied: trajectory of a single moving abrasive particle, distribution of abrasive particles under different levels of compression, distribution of abrasive particles under different polishing patterns.4. The average temperature in polishing area is tested by a non-contact infrared temperature measurement. The temperature and its retroaction are studied.5. Based on the study of abrasive particle field, an optimized surface contact system is built.The abrasive particles field is studied to obtain the perfect abrasive particle field after purposefully control. Then the influence of the removed material caused by abrasive particles field can be improved. So it can provide strong theory foundation and practice guidance to surface polishing practice.
