Subsea production system has being one of the important technologies for the development of deep-water oil and gas fields and marginal oilfields as they are exploring deeper,which is very cost-effective.As a key equipment of Subsea production system,umbilical is widely used in subsea applications.At present,the research on the design,analysis,manufacture and installation of umbilical in China is still in the preliminary stage.Horizontal installation method of umbilical was once used in some projects,which is only in shallow water(within 300m).And this will seriously restrict the application and development of Subsea production system in China.This paper is presented based on the umbilical installation project of Liwan 3-1 gas field.The manufacturing and research status of umbilical design,installation technology are studied firstly.A brief analysis of the advantages of vertical installation method and suitable methods and key equipment for deepwater umbilical laying system are studied.On this basis,according to the Liwan 3-1 gas field umbilical installation engineering,the composition of umbilical and accessories are studied,including umbilical composition,UTH,bend limiter and J tube,etc.Secondly,based on the actual parameters of the project,the umbilical installation procedure and the operation process are completed.The process of the umbilical pulling out,laying and laying termination are studied.Based on OrcaFlex software,the installation process of umbilical is analyzed.According to the results of OrcaFlex software simulation and analysis,the maximum allowable sea condition is calculated,and the guidance of offshore construction is given from the technical point of view,and the recommended Layback and minimum laying routing radius are given.Finally,with China's first flexible vessel with the vertical laying system of engineering ship "HYSY 286" for the installation of ship,the umbilical of Liwan 3-1 gas field are studied to assess the "HYSY 286" ‘s laying ability,which provides strong support for the developmentin the South China Sea deep-water oil and gas field development project.In this paper,the vertical installation technology of deepwater umbilical is systematically studied.The study covers the proposes the analysis method of vertical installation of umbilical.The research results and methods can provide reference for the installation of domestic umbilical.
