Cyclotriveratrylene is a kind of C3 symmetric macrocyclic compound with a large rigid and rich ?-electronic cavity.Cyclotriveratrylene is easily derivatized and can be modified on the up-edge and the low-edge to obtain lots of cyclotriveratrylene derivatives with different functional groups,which get broad application in binding fullerenes,molecular ion detection and identification,molecular assembly,drug release,soft materials,gel,liquid crystal and other fields.In this paper,o-methoxyphenol were used as raw materials to synthesize cyclotriveratrylene and then a series of alkyl chains,benzophenanthrene units,azobenzene molecules and Schiff-base were introduced on it to form all kinds ofcyclotriveratrylene derivatives.The main contents are as follows:1.The development and synthetic method of cyclotriveratrylene as well as its application in various fields are reviewed.2.The cyclotriveratrylene derivatives with different alkyl chains were designed and synthesized and their liquid crystal properties were studied.The results show that the length of the alkyl chainplayed the important roles on the liquid crystalline properties.3.The cyclotriveratrylene derivatives with different triphenylene units were designed and synthesized,and their liquid crystals were investigated.The results show that the liquid crystality of the derivative is related to the number of benzophenanthrene units and the relative molecular mass.4.The cyclotriveratrylene derivative containing azobenzene was designed and synthesized.Their inclusive property and photoisomerism were studied.The results exhibit that the derivative can bind effectively neutral red molecule.This derivative also presents the isomerisom under UV irradiation at 365 nm.5.A series of cyclotriveratrylene derivatives containing Schiff-base groups were designed and synthesized.Their ionic recognition properties were studied.The results suggest that the derivatives possess the complexation abilities for Cu2+ ion.
