The structural transition of azobenzene chromophores will change caused by the cis-trans isomerization under special wavelength illumination."Green solvent"room temperature ionic liquids are environmentally friendly, and exhibit many excellent physical and chemical properties. They play an important part in green chemistry. It may produce a new polymer with novelty properties by introducing azobenzene chromophores into IL. In this paper, a new kind of ionic liquid and poly ionic liquid containing azobenzene were provided for the design of photosensitive material. The structure and property were examined by a variety of techniques including MS, FTIR, NMR, thermal analysis, polarized optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and conductivity meter.1. We designed and synthesized a kind of azobenzene-containing photo-sensitive ionic liquid (IL). The structure was examined by MS, FTIR and (1H NMR). The photoresponsive property of IL was characterized by UV-Vis range from 300nm to 550nm and conductivity meter. Trans-cis photo isomerisation of IL was found under the irradiation of UV light at 365nm. The equilibrium state was reached within 30 min, which goes back to the former value again when it has been put in dark for 48h.2. We designed and synthesized a kind of side-chain azobenzene-containing photo-sensitive poly(ionic liquid)s. The structure was examined by MS, FTIR and 1H NMR. The obtained polymer has the general characteristics of liquid-crystal polymer and is very stable until 250℃. The photoresponsive property of the polymers was characterized by UV-Vis range from 300nm to 550nm and conductivity meter.Trans-cis photo isomerisation of IL was found under the irradiation of UV light at 365nm. The equilibrium state was reached within 30 min, which goes back to the former value again when it has been put in dark for 48h.3. A new type of azobenzene-containing liquid-crystal polymer was designed and synthesized by ionic self-assembly of poly(ionic liquid) and commercial dye methyl orange (MO). The structure was examined by FTIR spectra and 1H NMR. The obtained polymer has the general characteristics of liquid-crystal polymer and is very stable until 300℃. The UV-vis absorption shows that the polymer has dramatic blue-shift of the maximum compared with pure dye. The result of X-ray diffraction shows that the polymer is lamellar organization of smectic structure.
