In an effort to reduce the frequency of fires in our everyday life,Brominated Flame Retardants(BFRs)are added to most consumer products, including electronics.Throughout the use, disposal and recycling of electronics, additive BFRs are released into the environment and eventually pose health risks. One form of additive BFRs is Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers(PBDEs).Ways in which pollutants such as PBDEs enter the body affecting human health, are through our daily dietary intake, inhalation and dust ingestion. Therefore,PBDE contaminant residues in food, air and dust, and its levels of exposure are a worldwide concern. In this study, the most prevalent PBDE congener in Shanghai and Taizhou food samples was BDE 154 with concentrations ranging 0.1755?29.1332 ng/g ww,and BDE 47 with concentrations of 0.06?1560 ng/g ww,respectively.BDE 209 had the highest overall concentrations in Taizhou food samples with concentrations ranging ND?31300 ng/g ww.The One-way ANOVA-LSD method was used to analyze the concentration of Sum-PBDEs in the soil in urban, suburbs and rural residential areas in Shanghai, and it was found that the concentrations of Sum-PBDEs in the soil of urban residential areas were 2?7 times higher than those in Shanghai suburbs and rural areas(P<0.01).
