With the increasing scarcity of conventional oil and gas resources, our dependence on foreign oil and gas increases, coalbed methane, tight gas, tight oil, shale gas, shale oil, natural gas hydrate and other unconventional oil and gas energy gradually attract people's attention, which shale gas is particularly prominent.Currently,China's study on shale gas reservoir start late, development technology is relatively backward, especially the studies on damage mechanism of shale gas reservoir still stay in conventional reservoir stage. The main reason which causes this kind of condition is the reservoir rock has a very low level of permeability and porosity and limited research means. These problems directly influence the comprehensive economic benefits in the process of shale gas exploration and development.so domestic researches on shale gas reservoir protection technology have a long way to go.In this paper, based on the long maxi group reservoir shale in Southern Sichuan region YS108 well area and long maxi group shale outcrop as an example, after a system of research on domestic and foreign relevant literature for shale gas reservoir, the author does research from three aspects, they are respectively shale gas reservoir geological features and potential damage factors, the quantitative evaluation method indoor of shale gas formation damage, and the research on damage mechanism of shale gas reservoir. At the same time, the author carries out a series of evaluation on rock samples. The results show that the main damage mechanism of long maxi group shale reservoir is velocity sensitivity, acid sensitivity, liquid trap damage, solid phase damage. Thus the author also proposes a series of corresponding reservoir protection measures for related engineering and technical personnels or researchers to reference and study, while also can lay the foundation for further study on reservoir protection.
