At present, the high frequency of oil spills on the offshore drilling platform causes great ecological problems and economic loss. The most effective method for oil spill is relief well.It is mostly using Wellspot guidance tool to achieve accurate connection of relief well and accident well in abroad. The main function of Wellspot is detecting the relative position between relief well and accident well. The core technology is still a secret while there is little research in our country. The paper studies the calculation method of relative position between relief well and accident well. The basic survey data of relief well are calculated by processing the magnetic signal;Solving the relative orientation between measure point of relief well and target point of accident well according to the relationship among magnetic field and axis of two wells; Finally, calculate the current distribution on the accident well casing, then obtain the relative distance between two wells. For the complex rule of current distribution on the accident casing, the paper puts forward three kinds of calculation model, and compares the calculation results of them to select the optimal model.MATLAB software is used for programming.Software of relief well magnetic orientation algorithm is developed and used to do the example verification and error analysis of the results of electric cable measurement experiment and grounding simulation experiment. The results show that the magnetic orientation algorithm software can meet the actual demand of determining the relative space position between relief well and accident well, and it has a certain engineering significance to the site construction of relief well.
