Many oil producing wells around the globe suffer from a phenomenon known as water coning,a problem so severe that can make production uneconomical because it contaminates hydrocarbons,it affects the environment negatively,it increases the operational costs and it can even lead to early shut downs of the producing well. This project is a part of a research that attempts to create a system that can address the problem and eliminate this threatening phenomenon. The present project seeks to design an effective solution for the problem which combines existing technologies in an innovative and efficient way.The system consists of the Downhole Water Sink,a technology that has proven to control the water coning phenomenon. Two different zones,a water zone and an oil zone are incorporated and two different pumps are installed in the Downhole Water Sink completion. An Electric Submersible pump is used for producing oil free water and the Sucker Rod Pump is used in order to produce water free oil.We also proceed a step further by suggesting the substitution of the Sucker Rod String of the Sucker Rod Pump by the Coiled Tubing String. For the design of the system we use well deliverability procedures in order to identify what the well will produce and using the results,we designed the most appropriate pump system. Results show that a combination of all of these technologies and methods can prevent the water coning phenomenon because the reservoir pressure is kept steady during production. This will have positive effects on well operations, production cost and the environment. At the same time, oil production will be enhanced and the life of wells will be extended.
