Para-aramid fiber?Poly p-phenylene-terephthalamide?named as aramid fiber 1414 or PPTA due to its amide groups in benzene ring para?1,4?.Aramid fiber 1414 with excellent physical properties and chemical properties such as light weight,non-corrosive,radioresistance,high thermal stability,tensile modulus and high strength,has been widely used in building materials,medical treatment,special protection,aerospace and military industry.This article uses low temperature solution polycondensation,DMAC-CaCl2 as reaction system solution,and syntheses aramid 1414 polymer by p-phenylenediamine?PPD?and paraphthaloyl chloride?TPC?,and under the same conditions,polyethylene glycol?PEG?is used as the third monomer to synthesize modified aramid 1414 polymer.The effects of different conditions,such as initial reaction temperature,reaction time,feeding ratio,monomer concentration,and cosolvent on the synthetic results of aramid 1414 polymer and modified aramid 1414 polymer were studied.The effects of third monomers on the reaction system were discussed by comparing the difference of synthetic results.The modified aramid 1414 polymer was characterized by X ray diffraction,infrared spectrum analysis,thermal stability analysis and solubility test.The basic structure,crystallinity,thermal stability and solubility of modified aramid 1414 polymer were studied.The results show that the viscosity of the modified aramid 1414 polymer is reduced,but the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution are still excellent,the crystallinity and thermal stability have decreased,but the thermal stability is still good.Polyethylene glycol modified aramid 1414 polymer is still a good polymer with large molecular weight,uniform molecular weight distribution,large molecular chain rigidity and good thermal stability,which can dissolve in a specific organic solvent under heating.
