Accurate waste generation information is the basic requirement for developing a successful waste management strategy. In this paper,a new idea of the evolution of inert building-related construction and demolition waste(ICDW)is proposed, which is to estimate the generation of ICDW in a certain region at present, and then to predict the generation of that in the future. The research obtains the city's raster image and imports it into the GIS software to draw the building outline vector. Then the city's building inventory information is attributed and matched, and the regional GIS building stock database is established. On the basis of clarifying ICDW generation coefficient, the production of ICDW is quantified by using the approximate budget balance method and the building area estimation method in a certain area during the study period, and the regional GIS ICDW basic database is established.Based on this,a GIS model is developed for estimating and predicting the production and spatial-temporal distribution of ICDW at the regional level. The model can be used to characterize the research results in terms of time and space by setting the study period, and the study is conducted in the case of Cheng xi District of Xining City. The model can be used to characterize the changes in the amount of ICDW in the time and space dimensions through changes in the study period. The results show that the total amount of ICDW reaches 3.439 million tons in Cheng xi District from 2006 to 2017,and the demolition of ICDW is about 82% of the total production. From the perspective of the composition, the total amount of abandoned concrete, masonry materials, and mixed materials are 20%,47% and 33% of the total production volume;the total amount of ICDW reaches 23.1393 million tons in Cheng xi District from 2026 to 2065,and the demolition of ICDW is about 81% of the total production. From the perspective of the composition, the total amount of abandoned concrete, masonry materials, and mixed materials are 22%,47% and 31% of the total production volume. The research provides a new way for rational estimation and scientific prediction of ICDW production, and provides data support for the research on the resource utilization of the ICDW.
