"Urban shrinkage" phenomenon in2012had caused widespreadconcern. Experts in several fields predicted that rapid urbanization and macronarcissistic way of extensive operation focusing on economy would result in totalcollapse of urban structure, cultural structure and lifestyle. In addition, designersoften prefer to composition, aesthetic appreciation and symbolic meaning, whichleads to separation of architecture from urban structure and urban life. Therefore, transformation from physical environment to social structure and application hasfundamental significances to cities. The author of this paper does not intend tooperate the whole city which cannot be operated, but taking "form" as the mainobject and decomposing buildings in linguistic approach to explore howarchitecture functions as a component of a city. The effect is not stimulation, activation and rescue, but is really embedded into the structure of the city.A city's culture depends on people's understandings and beliefs of the city, which performs as conversation in linguistics. With Levi Strauss's theory that anyaspect of human activity can be possibly treated as a symbol or a sign in linguisticsystem, in which sense construction-related activities may be classified as areas oflinguistics. By speculating and discussing art texts, literary texts and architecturaltexts derived from languages, a neutral microscopic method of decomposition wasproposed. What is most valuable in Linguistics is the experimental potential oflanguage, in other words, is the experiment on the meaning and the "form", anddecomposing is the function test on the architectural "form".Combining linguistic theories on architectural design, four methodologies ofdecomposition are proposed in this paper, including a function transformation frompragmatism to aesthetics aimed at meanings, images and the main body; a retreatfrom meaning creation to the "empty" intention; a architectural transition fromdistinction to non-personalization; and a shift from the dominant perspective to theblanking of the main heart positioning. Base on the above four methodologies, andcombining with the author's project practices, five building-decompositionexperiments were carried out to create "empty" sites, build construction text of theorder, restore architectural texts trivial qualities, build multi-family juxtaposedequivalent architecture text and conduct purely linguistic construction.Language is used to be treated as creating tools or decorative design, but nowit should be seen as symbols or reality. This study is mainly talking about aestheticproblems on how a person as a sign join the building text in means of citylinguistics with his activities and play a role; how to incorporate human activities and events in architectural "form"; how is the building embedded into the city'ssocial and cultural life activities in a right way, truly establishing communicationsbetween architecture and human, and continuous description of the meaning ofusers' existence; even the possibility that buildings accommodate to the city. Thispaper declines to discuss morphology of single buildings, but cuts into the city-concerned with the architectural text of people's lives. That is, a linguisticfunctional approach is used in this paper, rather than research on the correspondingarchitectural vocabulary and verbal style.
