Viscoelastic dampers are one of the most common viberation mitigationdevices applied to tall buildings to reduce seismic and wind-induced viberation.Inthis paper? the theoretical and experimental investigation on the mechanicalproperties of a new kind of viscoelastic-plane damper is developed?to furtheradvance the feasibility of its applied to reduce seismic and wind-induced viberationof high buildings.(1) The mechanical properties tests of five kinds of viscoelastic materials(PR04? PR06? PR08? PR31? S251) are performed to describe the complexcharacteristics of each kind of viscoelastic material changing with excitingfrequency, strain amplitude and the cycle number. Meanwhile, the ability of ultimatedeformation of those viscoelastic materials is studied. According to the results of theexperiments, the viscoelastic material of PR04is proper to used for the viscoelasticwall damper.(2) According to the results of the experiments, a mathematical model ofviscoelastic wall damper is modeled based on Kelvin model. The research object isbased on a36-floor frame-shear wall structure. Two structure systems such asstructure with and without viscoelastic damper are used to build up as two finiteelement models by using the finite element software ABAQUS. Elastoplastictime-history analysis is used to compare the seismic performance of two structuresunder the action of frequent and rare earthquake. It is proved that the seismicresponse of the structure is mitigated effectively when it equipped with viscoelasticwall dampers.(3) Auto-regressive modle is used to simulate the random wind dynamic loads.Wind-induced vibration time-history analysis is used to analysis the wind responseof the structures with and without viscoelastic wall dampers. It is proved that thewind response of the structure is mitigated effectively when it equipped withviscoelastic wall dampers. The control effect of acceleration is more effective thanthat of Structural interforce and deformation...
