In recent years, the problem of energy consumption has drawn increasing attention. Window shading is one of the important ways to achieve energy-efficient construction. This thesis uses the building energy consumption simulation software(DeST) to build a model of typical residential building in Chengdu. It simulates three situations, which are the horizontal external shading, the horizontal fixed louver shading as well as the crank arm type movable awning, research the building energy consumption and indoor temperature. The effect of three different external shading on the natural daylight in the interior of the room was analyzed by software(Ecotect). The results show that, exterior shading with horizontal sunshade reduces the cooling load, but increases winter load in hot summer and cold winter area. The horizontal external shading should be combined with the actual situation of building to determine the energy saving effect. For this project, the good energy saving effect of use the 0.6m horizontal sunshade board and the 1.8m gap between the lower edge of sun visor and the edge of window Setting the external shade of the fixed horizontal blinds shading reduces the building total annual load of 1.17%. Setting crank arm type movable awning reduces the energy consumption of summer air conditioning, but increase the purchase and installation equipment cost. The little effect of horizontal external shading on natural daylight, and the fixed horizontal blinds shading has great influence on the natural daylight. The comfortable temperature hours of external shading is more than the comfortable temperature hours of no external shading. Considering three parameters, the building energy consumption, indoor lighting and indoor temperature, the outer windows should use the 0.6m horizontal sunshade board, and 1.8m gap from the lower edge of sun visor and the edge of window.
