With the development of economy, automobile is more and more important in people’s daily life. Automobile is not only the means of transportation, but also gives people lots of symbolic emblem, such as personal identity, social status, personality and hobbies. Nowadays, technology is more and more homogenous, styling as the carrier of these symbolic meanings, has played the key role in the success of market competition. The form of automobile face is an important part of brand character and brand information communication. It is the visual center of consumers. It’s also the key cognitive factor that affects car image, which is responsible for the “affective interaction” with consumers. As a combination of various functions and information, car front face design is the top priority of automobile modeling design.As a coalition of brand an d emotion image, car front face is very important for shape the automotive image. There are plenty of features in car front face, which have unique properties. They reflect such as the car brand, the culture of the enterprise, and the personal aesthetic of designers. The design of car front face can be regarded as a visually information process, it is the design of the way how to transmit the information of car.In the evolution of mankind, we have learned how to “read” from a person’s face to get the basic information and social information. For the lack of car aesthetic experience, average consumers attend to use their f acial aesthetic experience of human to cognize automobiles. Just like the interpretation of facial features, structures, consumers judge t he beauty and ugliness of automobiles through the “facial features”, and “facial expression” of vehicle. With the study of facial expression design of automobile styling, we can grasp the taste of consumers and the general direction of automobile design be tter.From the human face recognition principle, this paper aim to study the cognitive rules when people watch the front of a car. We build the cognitive model of car front face, and divide the information of car front face into two parts: feature informat ion and configuration information. T hus we have proposed a n automotive modeling expression design method based on face processing to guide design practice.
