The automobile drive shaft- rear axle assembly is a key component of back-wheel drive vehicle which has a front engine. The assembly plays a decisive role effect on the NVH performance of the vehicle. The main reducer plays an important role in the function for promotion of moment and deceleration in the assembly. Its operating conditions have a direct impact on the NVH performance. This paper focuses on the tapered roller bearing in the main reducer.The assembly process parameters of tapered roller bearings will affect the whole system of the main reducer. The preload in the tapered roller bearing will directly affect the main gear meshing. And the internal contact will vary under different assembly circumstances, which have effects on the performance of vibration.The structure of the tapered roller bearing parts is very complicated, so it is very hard to do analysis of the system. In order to obtain reliable results, some simplified work have to be done. Based on the space coordinate transformation, relative coordinates is derived which can efficiently determine the kinematics and mechanics analysis of the components in the bearing system. Then the internal force between the parts is analyzed based on Hertz contact theory and the theory of traction-sliding. In order to obtain a more accurate mathematical model of the roller, slicing working of the roller is done. Based on mechanical analysis, the generalized coordinates of the system is set and the differential equations of motion is derived.The Runge-Kutta-PhilBerg integral algorithm is used to solve the differential equations of motion. The drive shaft rotation speed and bearing radial clearance are set as the main parameters. Through the dynamic response analysis of the results, the optimum parameters of tapered roller bearing assembly are obtained.Finite element dynamic analysis of the tapered roller bearing is done based on ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Appropriate methods are used to divide the grid, hourglass control is done to ensure the calculation accuracy and efficiency. Considering the influence of bearing radial load and speed, the simulation results and theoretical analysis models were compared. The comparison results show that the simulation model is effective.
