The solar-powered plane powered by solar energy, with the advantages of flexible property and environment preservation, has a promising future both in civil and military application. Specifically, in civil field, it can be used for atmospheric research, weather forecast, disaster prediction, search and rescue, illegal fishing supervision, forest fire monitoring and earthquake monitoring in real time. In military field, it can be used for border patrol, homeland security, maritime surveillance and electronic countermeasures. Given the enormous advantage mentioned above, studies about solar-powered plane and the relevant technologies is being carried on in most countries recently.As one of the most important elements affecting the solar-powered plane performances,surface power of the PV modules is he key factor for solar-powered plane to realize timeless flight at high attitude. Based on the fact that the surface power of PV module can't be improved significantly by change the material at this stage. Trace mode of avtive-passive,which differs from the traditonal of single active or passive trace mode, can improve the surfance power of PV modules, which make itself be the new hotspot and lead to the emergence of many systems of chasing the sun.In this paper, Firstly, the research model of surface power of PV modules was established.Secondly, given the flight conditions at high attitude, corresponding models were established,for example: solar radiation model and temperature model at different attitude, sppeds and latitude, to study the different experiment results of surface power of PV module because of the differing outside environment and propose the new system of chasing the sun combind with the task of the airplane.Draw in solar-powered aircraft flight altitude of 10 km to 20 km,which faces the highest power of PV modules, can maximize the solar radiation. At last, the experiment was simulated with AT89C51 microcontroller.
