Research On The Development And Change Of Out-Patient Architectural Patterns Of Peking Union Hospital

Being one of the most complex types of architecture design,Hospital Architecture has experienced a number of different developing period through the contemporary development process.Many urgent problems occurred and we need to solve them.Traditional hospitals’ outpatient architectural patterns cannot functionally and practically fulfill the demands of information,modernization,and humanization.Compared with the new developing trends,traditional outpatient space has conflicts in many areas such as between wasting space and unreachable new functions;between one-stop service which patients in need and repeatedly return services;and between quiet treatment environment and waiting areas in chaos.Peking Union Medical College Hospital,as a representative of the national large comprehensive hospitals and being a modern hospital with long history,stands in a fairly important position.In this article,I use the hospital outpatient architectural systems in Peking Union Medical College Hospital as a start,reference the systems in several national large comprehensive hospitals,research from three perspectives.Firstly,from the historical perspective,clarifying the development process of the patterns in Union Hospital.Secondly,from the modern hospital building perspective,summarizing lessons and experiences learned from the system building in modern comprehensive hospitals.Thirdly,from a future perspective,exploring the development of information technology,the development of functional and spatial outpatient building patterns under new policies,as well as the future of Union hospital.This article can be divided into six parts.The first part describes the research background,significance,research methods and framework.The second and third parts,separately researches the medical model and outpatient architectural system in PUMC Hospital during its "Union Medical College Lockhart Hall" and "Union Medical College" period.The fourth part researches and evaluates towards new outpatient architectural patterns in Peking Union Medical College Hospital.The fifth part comparatively analyses outpatient architectural patterns in a large number of domestic general hospitals through abundant interviews and inquiries,analyses problems,new demands,reasons,solutions towards outpatient space of modern hospitals.The sixth part gives development suggestions of outpatient architectural system in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from the combination of the above studies,starting from the Union Hospital and backing towards itself in the end.
