A Study On The Spatial Morphology Of Rural Residence On Henan Central Plain Of New China

since the foundation of new China, along with the overall development of our country, people's living conditions have been constantly changing. At the beginning, our country was a typical agricultural one. Henan, located in the central plain region of China, has been a major agricultural province, of which the rural living space morphology, evolution and development are representative. This study, based on the social development and changes of residential space, researched and analyzed the factors that affected residential space changes, like family structure, age structure, economic status, attitude to life, life style, customs, social structure etc.. The reasons, regulations and evolution directions were analyzed and summarized.The study firstly analyzed the basic rural situation of the regional characteristics of Henan central plain; by combining the area range, climate characteristics, humanistic climate with the basic characteristics of the rural villages, the characteristics of architecture and interior space, courtyard features and other aspects, the study set a clear purpose and research object and selected the especially featured Xiaoxing Village and Feng He Village of Wuyang County in Henan central plain as key study objects.After determining the research objects, the author went to Xiaoxing Village and Fenghe Village of Wuyang County for spot investigation. Prior to the investigation, the author had referred to some relevant documents of the two villages and learn their basic situation; then drew a thorough map of their current situation, listed the contents, investigation ways and methods. After finishing all these tasks, the author made an in-depth spot survey of the two villages through site visits, inquiries, photo shooting, mapping and other methods to collect a large amount of raw data which provided a strong evidence basis for this study.Finally, according to comparison and analysis of the original survey data, the study made a comparative analysis of the characteristics of the two natural villages in different stages separately. The development of Xiaoxing Village is continuous. The village has been developing in its original area since the foundation of new China. Therefore, the evolution of the village has witnessed the history of new China and could be studied roughly in four phases. While Fenghe Village, due to a severe flood in 1975, its main village body was planned and founded thereafter. Fenghe village could be studied through three periods with focus on the evolution of residential space after Reform and Opening up, of which the evolution included the formation and evolution of the settlement, the changes of residential space as well the life style of the corresponding period.The study at last made clear the influence factors and changes of the evolution of rural residential space in Henan central plain and found out some problems appearing in the development of the new rural areas in Henan central plain through analysis of the evolution process. It also provided some suggestions on dealing with those problems existing.
