Urban rail transportation vehicles are in great demand in our contury; which has brought a broad development space for city subway rail vehicle manufacturing enterprises. Stainless steel urban rail vehicle is the main of urban rail vehicles, and its manufacturing process is the key and difficulty for the rail vehicle. At present, the manufacturing process of stainless steel car body still follows the traditional model of railway vehicle. In this mode, enterprises clearly lack the ability of quick response to market demand. In response to these problems, this paper introduces the idea of modularity into the manufacturing process of stainless steel car body to redesign its whole process, and to design the modular fixture. Based on the production line balancing theory, linear programming method is used to optimize its production line balancing and scheduling. The main contents are as follows:On the basis of systematic analysis of stainless steel body structure, the car body module division is completed, and dimension of the module interface is summarized. Based on the results of module division, the design of each module technological process is completed, and all the processes of the car body manufacture are identified. In accordance to the classification standard of urban rail vehicles, the modular car body manufacturing fixtures are planned and designed based on the modular proess of car body. Based on linear programming methods, mathematical models for stainless steel car body line balancing and production line scheduling are established. Stainless steel car body production line balancing and scheduling are optimized, and balanced program for new production is evaluated. Example results show that, under minimal additional production resources investment, production line efficiency isimproved significantly and the utilization rate of productive resources is significantly improved after the balance.
