Theoretically, after the introduction of energy storage device into the user side, it can level the load, improve the power supply reliability and power quality; and for medium to large electricity users, the energy storage device can effectively defer facility investment. But, the current user rarely equipped with energy storage device, mainly due to the high cost of storage make it lacks of economy. Therefore, reasonably determines charge and discharge time for storage system, and ultimately maximize users' profitability, making energy storage to achieve the best economy is studied in this article. Details are as follows:(1) Since the hourly spot market price is available one day ahead, the price could be transferred to the consumers and they may have some motivations to install an energy storage system in order to save their energy costs. In this part presents an optimal operation strategy for a energy storage device in relation to the real-time electricity price in order to achieve the maximum profits of the energy storage device. Two kids of battery energy storage system, based on polysulfide-bromine (PSB) and vanadium redox (VRB) battery technologies, are studies. Simulation results show, that the proposed optimal operation strategy is an effective measure to achieve maximum profits of the energy storage device. The results also show that the PSB battery is the better investment choice. And analyze the effect of the capacity of energy storage on the economy.(2) In the TOU, energy storage can bring such values:saving the electricity charge by energy price arbitrage, diminishing the distribution capacity that the users' required, improving the power supply reliability. Establishing an evaluation mode aims total net interests of distributed energy storage to a maximum value, regarding the charge and discharge characteristics of distributed energy storage as constrains condition, using cooperative particle swarm algorithm to solve the examples correspondingly. Through solving the mode the charge-discharge operation strategy and the best investment are gotten. And analyze the effect of the charge/discharge efficiency of energy storage and the cost of the energy storage on the economy.By researching on the operating strategy and economics of the energy storage device when it was used in user side, we can obtained spot market price and TOU are a powerful way to encourage consumer to install an energy storage system in order to save their energy costs,improve energy supply reliability, and so on. What's more, the results of the research can provide some reference to consumers and manufacturers.
