Large diameter piles are more and more widely applied in projects for its outstanding bearing capacity and flexural capability. This paper uses ABAQUS to conduct corresponding analysis and research on the ultimate vertical bearing capacity of steel pipe piles with diameter of 2.0~3.0m.Firstly, by comparing the load displacement curve in field load test and the results of the finite element simulation, this paper established reasonable numerical models. Secondly, through the analysis of the relationship between load displacement curves of three different soil distribution patterns and the yield points of different soil layers, the author explored and studied the mechanism of force transmission of the vertical bearing pile and. Moreover, based on these characteristics, this paper proposed a new method to determine the bearing capacity of piles.Then, the author conducted specific research on the ultimate vertical bearing capacity of large diameter piles and analyzed the influence of soil parameters and scale of piles on vertical bearing capacity. Based on the influencing factors, the author analyzed the factors influencing the modified formula of bearing capacity. In view of those factors and based on the consideration of the correlation of various factors, the author proposed modified formula of side resistance and tip resistance of displacement controlled piles and failure controlled piles.Finally, according to the proposed modified formula, the author compared results of finite element simulation, modified formula and recommended formula of the standard with completely different parameters of pile and soil and verified the reliability of the modified formula this paper presents.To sum up, this paper concentrated on the research of ultimate vertical bearing capacity of steel pipe with diameter of 2.0~3.0m and presented corresponding modified formula of ultimate bearing capacity. The results are of certain significance for the popularization and application of large diameter piles in ports.
