At present, the design and calculation of high-piled wharf are still in accordance with the design code by using the plane algorithm. The plane algorithm is simple and convenient, however the simplifications and parameters in the design code are given for the wharf with normal size, which has some limitation for high-piled wharf with large span and size in reality. Therefore, the space structure algorithm for high-piled wharf is more and more important for the design of wharf structure. This paper takes a high-piled wharf as example, using the plane algorithm under different simplifications according to the wharf structure. With the help of ANSYS, the finite element software, the overall structure model and single-row frame model of the wharf are established to carry out space calculation respectively. According to the analysis of the calculation results, 4 factors are presented which has significant effect on the spatiality of high-piled wharf structure, using the maximum value and standard deviation of pile-axis force as two indicators to quantize the “spatiality”, making quantitative analysis of spatiality of high-piled wharf structure space under different loads. The results show that the change of frame span has the most remarkable effect on vertical uniformly distributed load and the vertical concentrated load and the change of the rows of frame significantly affects the horizontal concentrated load. Finally, the evaluation of the current design code for plane algorithm based on the analysis above is given, considering large wharf scale, large wharf frame span and large longitudinal beam size as significant spatial characteristics. In these conditions, according to the actual force situation of wharf structure, the frame structure and span could be appropriately adjusted to make every parts of the wharf more reliable and to play its role in bearing well.
