New Interpretation Of“Shan-shui City” And Planning Strategy Analysis In Medium And Small Cities

China has entered a rapid era of fast urbanization since 1990 s. The fast urbanization has caused the deterioration of the urban environment, leading to the concern of the ecologicalization and humanization aspects of urban development, and maintaining the traditional style of the city and local specialties has become an urgent problem.In 1990, Chinese scholar Xuesen Qian proposed a great concept of “Shan-shui City” based on the unique characteristics of Chinese culture and Chinese urban construction theory. It calls for a balance between the artificial and natural environment, expecting that human beings can achieve the dream of finding a peace in nature in the modern society. The emphasis of ecological construction, the subdivision of ecological model and the appearance of ecological theory as well as the uniqueness of “Shan-shui City” have made the “Shan-shui City” an important practical theory for the Chinese-featured urban construction. However, the idea of “Shan-shui City” that simply proposes “a city with copious natural resources and beautiful environment” can not be able to match with the increasingly elaborate city goals, therefore, it is critical to further study the “Shan-shui City” theory.First of all, this paper redefines the concept of “Shan-shui City” and proposes the prototype of “Shan-shui City” based on comparisons and summaries of foreign and domestic ecological theory, as well as generalized idea of “Shan-shui City”. Meanwhile, the paper conducts the core component of “Shan-shui City” through the analysis of the artistic content, the construction theme and the nature attributes of “Shan-shui City”.In the next place, this paper points out the core status of landscape resources in “Shan-shui City”, puts forward the scope of the landscape resources in “Shan-shui City”, and thereby systematically investigates the development and protection of landscape resources and the framework of “Shan-shui City”. Furthermore, this paper presents the strategic plan of “Shan-shui City” for median and small cities in China at three perspectives – the reasonable scale of “Shan-shui City”, the artificial construction of “Shan-shui City” and the expressions of geographical features of “Shan-shui City”.Finally, this paper conducts a case study from Shou-shan City as an empirical example of “Shan-shui City” to illustrate the practicability of theoretical research in this paper.
