The construction of weir and dam by human beings has a history of thousands of years and the gravity dam is one of the first types of dams. Build in Switzerland in the year of 1961 named Grande Dixence Dam is 285 meters high and it is the highest gravity dam on earth. China’s Three Gorges Dam was build in the year of 2006.The construction of Three Gorges Dam attracts worldwide attention. The dam is 181 meters high,2335 meters long. The concrete capacity of the dam is 27.15 million stere. The height of dam increases gradually along with the requirement of human beings and the safety of dam is becoming the key factor that hydraulic architecture designers must consider.In this paper, taking a high gravity dam engineering for example, I analyze the dynamic response characteristics of the dam under accidental factors such as the action of earthquake and explosion. The details of this paper are as follows:(1)In this paper, I build the three-dimensional model of the groups of the whole gravity dam section using the software Ansys. What’s more, I do some analysis on the seismic response characteristics of the groups of the whole concrete gravity dam section under the combination of the static and dynamic cases on the condition that reservoir is vacant or full. Besides, I analyze if the design of the groups of the whole gravity dam sections conform to the requirements of the seismic.(2)I build six two-dimensional nonlinear finite element models using ABAQUS about the three typical single dam sections on retaining dam section, bottom intake dam section and overflow dam section if there is rebar in the dam. Comparing the numerical simulation results with the results of model test of structure dynamic, I do some research on the failure mode of the dam, analyze the failure path of the gravity dam. The results of numerical simulation and model test matches well. Huang’s gravity dam seismic reinforcement measures greatly improve its seismic performance.(3)For the antiknock properties of the gravity dam, using the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA, I build two types of fluid-structure interaction models of dams on the condition that the Free field Storage level is normal on the different positions in which the explosive is setted. In this paper, I do some analysis and discussion on the antiknock characteristics of different types of gravity dams. The folding slope on upstream face of gravity dam increases the dynamic responses of acceleration, velocity and decreases the responses of displacement that the underwater contact explosion has to the dam. Time history curve of the dam without folding slope performs relatively flat. Besides, the dam without folding slope is more serious subjected to.underwater contact explosion on upstream face.
