Overhead Crane has been popularized. The size of overhead crane designed through traditional way is so large that the crane is uneconomic.As the metal structure, bridge, which decides crane is safety or not, has a big influence on overhead crane’s weight. Optimization design for bridge reasonably is important work to light the weight of overhead crane. The National Science and Technology Supporting Plan Issue "Research of common technology for lightweight of overhead crane" (Project number: 2015BAF06B01) propose to research the advanced design methods of metal structure for lightweight overhead crane to. The aim is to lose weight 20%~25%, which is also the aim of this article. The following is main content:(1) Finish analyzing the force condition of bridge, and deduce equivalent inertia of variable section girder using equivalent column formula.(2) Build math model of bridge. Select twenty parameters that influence girder structure as the design variables of girder and volume as objective function. As to end beam, select six parameters as its design variables and sectional area as objective function.(3) Design girder and end beam optimally respectively using adaptive GA. As QD20/5-22.5A5 for example, compare the optimal results and analyze the result using ANSYS software, which verify the feasibility to design bridge using the method proposed in this article.(4) In end, develop a system of optimization design for lightweight overhead crane using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 as environment platform. This system provides convenient way for designer to design bridge structure of overhead crane.The system of optimization design for lightweight overhead crane developed in this article is easy to operate and its interface is simple. It can finish optimization design progress and output the result automatically if designer input the basic parameters of overhead crane.
