The major problem of the contemporary era facing is energy shortage and environmental pollution. Environmental protection has become the theme of the times. With the continuous development of science and technology, the electric car has become a trend in the automotive industry. Battery is the energy core of electric vehicles and its management system is the key to the safe operation of the electric car. The battery management system can improve the efficient use of battery power, detect the state of battery and make the battery in good performance. Countries around the world are conducting research in the battery management system and they have achieved some results.In this paper, the lithium-ion battery management system was used to study for lithiumion battery electric vehicle. The main function is to collect the data of charge and discharge of the battery pack, monitor status of the battery pack and protection. The main work includes:Firstly, the research purpose and significance of battery management system were analyzed by reading a large number of domestic and overseas literatures and understanding the related theory research status thoroughly. This paper summarized the main methods of the state of charge and the advantage and the disadvantage of these methods.Secondly, the working principle and characteristics of the lithium-ion batteries were studied to determine the basic functions and the overall program of battery management system.Thirdly, the paper has completed the hardware circuit design of battery management system based on the main control board and circuit board. The control board is the core of the system, including the battery data acquisition module, communication module, humancomputer interaction module. The acquisition board mainly to complete single cell balancing and data acquisition.Fourthly, the paper has completed program design and PC monitoring interface design based on the hardware circuit of system. The modular design of the battery system has completed data acquisition, cell balancing, battery SOC estimation and other procedures. PC software was exploited based on visual basic to monitoring battery status intuitively.Finally, the hardware and software of the system were tested and the results show that the management system is stable and the battery pack can accurately collect data. The system has achieved the desired function. At the same time, the shortcomings of system design were analyzed and solutions were proposed.
