Constant innovation of technology and manufacturing processes has greatly improved the quality of the product. Traditional life tests are difficult to obtain information about the reliability at normal use conditions within a reasonable time. In order to quickly obtain the product reliability at normal operating conditions, people propose a method of accelerated life test, which has been widely used in industrial field at present. Two key issues with accelerated life testing(ALT) are test design and data analysis. This paper focuses on test design of constant stress ALT.In the previous research works of accelerated life testing, people proposed a series of test design methods, but most of them are too complex to implement in the engineering field. In this paper, we present a “pure” empirical test design method of constant stress accelerated life testing by analysis and modeling of design parameter which collected from the published literature. With the proposed approach, some of the decision variables are determined based on the results from the literature, some of the other variables are determined based on engineering analysis and/or judgment, and the remaining variables are determined based on the empirical relations developed in this paper.Compared to other methods, the approach proposed in this paper not only the parameters, such as test units allocation, stress levels and so on, but also more convenient for practitioners to understand and apply in engineering.
