The strength reduction method is one of the important engineering technologies for analyzing the slope stability. This paper firstly introduces the research status about the strength reduction methods at home and abroad, then summarizing the application of this method and its deficiencies on formula.Based on the self-made strength reduction program of FLAC3D,this paper amends this program which reduces c and ? in the same ratio. The slop stability of Qian Ping right dam abutment was studied systematically, and this provided the theoretical foundation for excavation and construction stages of this bank slope. The innovations in the dissertation as bellow:?1?Slope Stability Analysis of the Qiangping Reservoir Right Abutment. The right dam abutment of Qianping Reservoir is a high slope. The slope is steeply and consists of andesitic porphyrite. The slope rockmass unloading zone is severely, which indicate that the slope may be instability.According to the numerical stimulation, the slipping part is the impending slope, while the potential sliding surface is around the unloading zone.Under the natural conditions, the displacement of the slope to the empty direction has little deformed with the maximum displacement about 1.033 mm,and the maximum displacement is 7.0724 mm in the 8 degree earthquake intensity. The displacement of dam abutment under any working conditions is less than 10 mm,thus it has strong self-stabilization and the possibility of sliding stability cannot exist.?2?In regarding to the deficiencies of strength reduction method, numerical simulation experiment are made for 110 times?8 group?by the reduction rule of ?cF?/(Ftrial)??tan??/(?Ftrial) in this paper, and gets the relation between the correction factor ? and the critical value ait1?the difference between the lower limit and upper limit in the program?.Therefore,a new strength reduction formula is put forward, which amends the self-made program and test its reliability.?3?After running this revised program,we get safety factors separately under natural and earthquake conditions.Along with the rising of earthquake intensity, the safety factor of high slope decrease gradually, and it is 1.44 in the 8 degree earthquake intensity. Thus this conclusion is in accord with the numerical stimulation of variation trend of high slope stability.
