In this paper, the research on failure mechanism of public transportation escalator with heavy load was carried out. Through the statistical analysis of the accident, the cause of the accident and the form of expression were obtained. The reliability analysis was carried out by using the finite element software ANSYS.The main work of this paper could be summarized as follows.(1) Analysis on the causes of the risk of heavy duty escalator in the field of public transport was done. The accidents caused by use of environmental, escalator design, human problems were concentrated expression. Through the investigation of the accident statistics analysis on escalator, we got the probability and cause of the operation. In order to reverse the operation of the accident, resolution methods such as inspection, the responsibility to implement, civilization of the improvement were given.(2) Static reliability analysis of the escalator was done. Using of the finite element software ANSYS, calculation of the reference standard: 16899-2011 GB "automatic escalator and automatic sidewalk manufacturing and installation safety specification", we set the structure parameters, load distribution and boundary conditions, simulation of the frame and the cascade of the deformation in the three directions. Comparing with the standard, we got valid conclusions.(3) The research on characteristics and the relationship between the braking distance and the load was done. And the experimental results are used to get the difference between the vibration signal of the escalator host in the relaxed state and the normal working condition. The feasibility of extracting the vibration signal of the escalator was verified to judge the failure of escalator parts.
