In the last ten years, our country has experienced the transformation from manual meter reading system to automatic meter reading, at present, in the vast majority of areas in China have been deployed automatic meter reading systems.Although the current automatic meter reading compared with manual meter reading has very obvious advantages, there are still some limits, especially the structures and topology of networks are without enough flexiblity and intelligence, these make the meter reading system future upgrades, expanding and maintaining not inconvenience, at the same time the network topology will also become the bottleneck of the whole system development. To the network limitations of concentrators, this paper puts forward a solution of wireless ad-hoc network, we make the RF module embedded in the concentrator, and then concentrators will build network by itself and communicate with each other via RF modules, this methord will combine lonely concentrators to a more dynamic data collection network, and data will be transfered by multi-hop way in this concentrator networks.This paper uses Si4438 as a transceiver which is high-performance, low-current and targeted at the Chinese smart meter market. According to the characteristics of the meter reading system in our country and needs we analyzed, we put forward a network topology of improved multi-level clusterings and clustering routing algorithm of integrating and improving the LEACH and PEGASIS protocols, besides, we developped the wireless communication protocol in our system.We realized the network organization and data transmission among concentrators, and the network topology is simple, flexible and applicable as well as the network protocol, the network can adapt to the environment intelligently, this reduces the complexity of the concentrator networking, at the same time improve the reliability and scalability of the network.
